Teacher Plan

In this introductory high school art lesson, we'll delve into the essential skills of shading and drawing using different mediums. To support your learning journey, I'll be incorporating a video resource—similar to this one—that we'll explore together in class. Plus, I'll make it available for you to review at your own pace, ensuring everyone, including absent students, has access to the material.

Student Reference: This section provides a condensed version of the complete lesson plan, which students can access through a learning management system or via printed copies. This resource is intended to facilitate student review of instructions, tracking of assignment due dates, and comprehension of the intended learning outcomes. It's worth noting that while rubrics were historically attached to physical documents, as exemplified above, they are now integrated directly into each digital project within the LMS environment.

Check for Learning

Student growth in this course is assessed through a combination of process- and project-based rubrics and the mandatory maintenance of a sketchbook, such as the example provided above. The sketchbook serves a dual purpose: it allows for the evaluation of conceptual understanding through the quality of student notes and drawings, and it facilitates the tracking of individual progress by enabling a comparison between earlier and more recent sketchbook entries.

Below is an example of a drawing student’s progress, showcasing their work in gathering reference points, developing sketches, brainstorming ideas, and preparing for their final artwork.
